This year, 49 confirmed tornados struck Europe, and around 200 further so far unconfirmed cases have been reported. This means, that this year more tornados occurred than in the last at least five years.

In 2009, 50 tornados were confirmed. This year has only 49 confirmed tornados so far. However, there are still 223 possible tornado cases that have not been confirmed nor dismissed yet. So far 2006 is holding the record with 121 confirmed tornados in only one year within Germany.

Especially at the beginning of July this year there were many tornados. In a certain, rather small region in Germany, 9 funnels (which are still unconfirmed) were reported in one day. A very strong tornado struck close to Munich.
